HALDEMAN CHALLENGES STATUS QUO
Opponent veers left
(Wakefield, RI) - The Committee for Haldeman announces that in June, Jim Haldeman will be filing his intention to run for the House of Representatives in District 35. The campaign is excited by the historical surge of interest in the political process.
"The last elections were two of the worst to run as a conservative." said Sean O’Donnell, Co-Chairman of the campaign committee. “The tidal wave of voters supporting the historical Presidential race brought coattails all the way down the ballot.”
Mr. O’Donnell further stated “The anti-Republican sentiment that existed in 2008 has been replaced with disgust for the way our State has been mismanaged by the Democrat led General Assembly. Anti-incumbency sentiments will dominate local races. Rhode Islanders are simply fed up with the condition of our State.”
Lt. Col. Haldeman cites ineffective representation as a motivation to run for RI House district 35. “The General Assembly has put our state on the precipice of economic disaster. My 2008 opponent has supported the Speaker of the House in almost every critical vote since his swearing in last year. He even voted for the Speaker’s endorsed successor, liberal Gordon Fox. And now, with one of our elementary schools the chopping block as a result of their funding formula, our representative tells the School Committee that fighting it is a lost cost because communities losing money are in the minority. He added that making sure we fill out our census surveys might help.”
While awaiting committee assignments in his first session, Haldeman’s 2008 opponent told then Speaker Murphy to “use me as a pawn in the game of life” (South County Independent, January 2009). Haldeman notes “District 35 in South Kingstown does not want a representative willing to act as a ‘pawn’ for some presumptive ‘leader’ in Providence. We need bold new ideas and passionate debate. Not sheep.”
Jim will be very visible in the upcoming months spreading his message and earning the support of the District 35 voters.
